Ionian Discoveries is based in the beautiful fishing village of Fiskardo, on the island of Kefalonia. We offer stunning voyages of excitement and discovery on board our traditional Greek Kaiki.
Kefalonia is steeped in history and natural beauty and is full of charming people. With the famous birthplace of Odysseus on the adjacent island of Ithaca, the intervening channel makes a spectacular setting for our day trips.
What we offer.
The Marine Adventure Excursion.
We cruise across the Ithaca channel for our first stop on a beautiful, secluded beach nestled in the foothills of the island of Odysseus. Here in the crystal clear waters you can learn the basics of snorkelling in a fun and safe environment. For the more confident there is the chance to go exploring for one of the many broken and dismantled World War 2 sea mines that dot the coast line of Ithaca. With only 17 guests on board there is always a convivial atmosphere.
We later carry you to a stunning island in the middle of the channel known as Dhaskalio or Asteria. Mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey this is supposedly the island where Penelopes suitors lay in wait for the return of Telemachus, Odysseus son. Surrounded by unique rock formations and underwater reefs this area is a haven for marine life and a superb snorkelling stop. It is also one of the best areas to come across the fantastic Octopus which lurk amongst the rocks.
For lunch we head for a sheltered cove or bay where you have the chance to swim, sunbathe or join in the hunt to collect examples of marine life to display in our onboard aquarium. After a substantial lunch of typically Greek fare, our knowledgable guide, will give you a fun yet informative talk on the marine life that has been gathered. This gives everybody a chance to see these amazing animals at first hand without even getting wet!!
As we head back to port our last stop has to be Shipwreck bay. Here, lurking in the shallow waters, you have the chance to go snorkelling again over several shipwrecks, each one in a different stage of decay! Was it smugglers?.. was it pirates?… was it hurricane Giorgo?……….or was it plain old inebriated Giorgo?
The answers lie within so join us on a voyage of excitement and discovery!
The price includes the full day out, use of all equipment, masks and snorkels, fins and wetsuits, a comprehensive lunch with wine or soft drinks and the education and information.
Things to bring: – swimming costume, towels, suncream, light jumper (in low season).
We leave Fiskardo at 9.30am and return at 4pm.

Evening Charter.
Aperitif on the beach
Ionian Discoveries is ready to offer now the amazing aperitif on the beach.
Departure from the Fiskardo’s harbour at 5.30 pm, stunning evening cruising to one enchanted beach where will be offered to you one apertitif composed by many appetizer, white wine and soft drinks.
During the aperitif will be possible to have an amazing view on the sunset on Ithaca.
Return to Fiskardo around 9 pm .
Private Charter.
Why travel with the masses when you can privately charter our vessel and have a day, half a day or even an evening, tailor made for you and your group. Imagine an evening cruise with dinner on the beach under the stars. Or perhaps a day of exploring the fantastic coastline with your very own private guide.
